Rocking Chair Memories by Larry Elliott – rocking chair song

Rocking chair song.

This is one of those deep country songs about memories…

The topic of this edition is the song” Rocking Chair memories” the title cut off my CD of the same name.

This is one of those modern country songs written with the old style slow country lyrics.

 The idea to write this song or the inspiration came from a sign my mother Irene Elliott saw while passing through a small town in Washington state.

Mom and dad saw a small antique store with a rocking chair emblem hanging. 

It read “rocking chair memories” that gave her the start of the idea as a writing for old rocking chair song lyrics.

She decided to come from angle or point of view of a rest home or nursing home. One particular person we knew was in one my grandpa William Ralph Elliott my dads dad.

The story went on to tell about his experiences and personal views of the rest home and many others who shared similar opinions or thoughts.

Many older folks looked at the rest home as a prison or a jail cell from which you could never leave. My grandpa Ralph said it was the last stop before the cemetery.

Even though they received kind and loving care from the nurses and doctors there and the staff also.

A lot of the old folks had children who would come and see them, but there were others who either had no family to come and see the or they lived too far away to come very often and then others who just wouldn’t come.

As the song says one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever hear when you’re all by yourself.

Like the song says when his kids needed him they were never let down,but now the tables are turned they’re seldom around.

So make those family members maybe your own or somebody who needs to know feel special.

Let them know someone cares for many of them are already living on borrowed time.

It may soon be too late and you may not have them but for a short time.

That’s the basic gist of the story as told to me by my mom Irene Elliott and now you know the story behind the song.

Sad country songs about losing a loved one and a heaven country song.

 

A real story of my Grandmother and song lyrics she wrote right before she died on Christmas…

 

This is an inspiration from a true story for current country hits.  This particular song is entitled “I’m Gonna See Jesus Someday”.  It comes off of my CD entitled” Call 9-1-1 Heaven” my gospel CD by Larry Elliott.

This is one of those sad country songs about heaven…

which will help you appreciate your relatives more and the message it holds…

It was inspired by a partially written song that was in her possession when she passed away. She was my Great Grandma Edna Rose of Glasgow Missouri.

We believe she wrote these lyrics Christmas Eve just before she passed away Christmas morning.

Her words were later to become the chorus to the song of “I’m Gonna See Jesus Someday”. My mother Irene Elliott was able to write after receiving the lyrics from her children.

The chorus of the song a friend found written on a pad on her night stand next to her bed as the song story describes.

The friend found her on Christmas morning she had died somewhere in the wee hours of Christmas morning. They knew mom wrote songs and so thus began the finishing of the writing of the song. So the song does come from a true story.

I need to give you a little bit of input before I tell you the story as it was written.

Great Grandma Rose had little of any formal education back in the day times were hard and most folks could not afford to send their children especially 8 in number to school usually the older kids had to help their folks make out a living.

Grandma from what I am told learned to read and write by reading old letters of friends or relatives. 

She may have known the alphabet then she would sound out the words. She did know 0’s and X’s meant hugs and kisses. She didn’t know much if anything about Jesus other than what she heard from her folks or friends.

Later on some missionaries and teachers started telling her about Jesus or God or even the Holy Spirit.

I heard she did go to church for a short spell til her husband Great Grandpa Frank Rose heard people after church talking trash and derogatorily about the other members of the church behind their backs. 

None of the others would leave the church last for fear of being bad mouthed. You might call it the local rumor mill back in the day. So that ended Great Grandma’s church going Grandpa wouldn’t allow her to go there anymore.

He said in his opinion they were a bunch of back biters and hypocrites in his opinion and he would not allow his wife to go to such a place and that was the end of that. To make a long story not too much longer thus my mother Irene Elliott wrote the story.

At first she did not know how she was gonna write the rest of the song for this sad country song. 

Then she thought I’ll just tell the story as it happened As you can probably guess Great Grandma wrote her part of the song shortly before her passing away.

I know Great Grandma was saying I’m old and I’m gray and well on my way and I’m gonna see Jesus someday and

…so now you have the story behind one of these current country hits…

You Can’t Take It With You When You Go by Larry Elliott

The story behind the song

Hello everyone and welcome once again to the story behind the song.

Today’s song is entitled “you can’t take it with you when you go”.

It was written by my mother Irene Elliott.  I believe the song is based on and old but clever adage  we’ve all hear:

As you know we come into this world with nothing and we’ll take nothing with us when we go.

This song is also included on my Hard times Cd. It has some very clever hook lines in it .

Notice the great piano solo played by Curt Gonion  a chef/piano player and the great harmonica part played by Jim Gabbard whose father was the music teacher at Caldswell State University now called Albertson University and the lead guitar part by yours truly Larry Elliott.

Hope you will enjoy the song it’s a great song which is gospel oriented in it’s flavor

What’s Another Heartache by Larry Elliott

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

We may have a Love Heart Ache at some time is our life, “What’s Another Heartache”?

Here’s another exciting episode from “The Story Behind The Song”. The song is entitled “What’s Another Heartache” off the CD called “The Hard Times” by Larry Elliott.

I believe it’s more or less a song about lessons learned in life’s journey and the heartaches and heartbreak many people suffer some more than their share than others do. I know mom must have thought of a lot of bad situations she had seen or witnessed in her lifetime.

Maybe of people who just couldn’t find the right mate no matter how hard they tried and many just thought about giving up…

…that there was not much hope and anyway what’s another heartache more or less when you’ve been through so many why worry about one more.

Many of theses here relationships are sometimes marrying on the rebound or not having a long enough courtship to know who you are marrying or marrying a “Prince Charming” just because he or she is Handsome or beautiful in the long and short theses relationships are not often long lasting and sure…

..There’s and old saying “do not shop for groceries when you are hungry” I know a lot of people male and female can somewhat relate to this story.

If nothing else it makes for good drama and maybe teaches us all to look before we leap and to put our best foot forward.

Remember slow and sure usually wins the race over fast.

Somebody’s Got To Lose by Larry Elliott – Vintage Music



Welcome to another episode of the story behind the song…

..from one of the songs of Larry Elliott.

Today’s song is entitled “Somebody’s got to lose” off of my Hard Times Cd. It was written by mom once again,

The story is a true one up to a point.

You might say the names were left out to protect the innocent.  Mom made several observations of people we’ve known who seemed to lose more than they won out so I guess this song was meant maybe to uplift some of these fine people.

It has a wonderful fiddle part originally developed by the great late great a dear friend of mine…

…and a mentor to my guitar playing style I owe a lot to this man whom in many ways was like a father to me especially when he was teaching me. 

He was very serious about the lessons whether they were fiddle or guitar he didn’t care if the lesson took you 2 hours or more he did not want you to leave until you had got the lesson…

..and when he was giving a lesson he did not want anyone interrupting the lesson at all and he would get very upset if it were not for a good reason.  

This is how I became better on the fiddle and gained insight into creating better music.

Ordinary Guy by Larry Elliott



Well hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the story behind the song.

Today’s song is entitled ”Ordinary guy from the other side of town”.  This song comes off of my Hard Times Cd.

It was written by my mom Irene Elliott.  I do not believe it was about any person  at all, just a good story line comparing high class to the lower class.

In life when we say we’re from the other side of the tracks it is kind of looked at as less fortunate than others…

…or we weren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouth, we had to work for what we’ve got.

This song has a lot of good hook lines in it like dining on pheasant under glass or walking your fancy poodle dog while I pet my mutt of a hound or wearing your nice expensive clothes I’ll wear my Levi jeans.

I would like you to pay close attention to the pedal steel ride by Brian Davies who is formerly of the well known band back in the 70’s Tar Water Band. Then notice the nice Count Basie ending on the song a nice addition to the song.

Also not the great guitar ride from Rob Mattson the studio tech a former student of the late great George Thomason who used to teach at Boise State University.

Men from Mars by Larry Elliott

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Here’s another story from behind the song. This particular song comes from the CD “Rocking Chair Memories” by Larry Elliott.

The song is entitled “Men from Mars” The song was written about 25 years or more ago back in the day people were claiming sightings of UFO’s and Flying Saucers some were true many were proven to be hoaxes and some were unexplainable. They claimed to have seen at least some of them to have seen little green men with antennas on their heads or having close encounters of the lSt,2“d,and 3rd kind.

Back in the day my folks and I knew a Country singer/truck driver by the name of George Miller…

..who at one time worked with the Legendary Great Mac Wiseman of bluegrass and Country notoriety. He used to play some gigs at a well know landmark back in the day called the Washington Hotel before it later burned down and was not rebuilt it is now called Washington Square in commemoration of what used to be there once.

The Hotel housed guests or over nighters plus had a cafe a barber shop a night club called the Copper Lounge which was one of the local watering holes included in the total of 17 bars in our town at the time also there were people who made the hotel there permanent residence.

The bar had live music mainly on the weekends and there was a little trio or quartet playing country music there at the time the band to the best of my recollection may have included members such Jim Smith on bass and lead guitar and vocals ,George Millers Lead Vocals and Rhythm Al Rabbiddeau on drums and back-up vocals and Ronnie Holmes on lead guitar. My mother and dad used to sometimes go down and listen to the band on the weekends when they got a chance.

It was sometime in the future George pitched the idea to my mom about writing a song about UFO’s and extra terrestrials…

..she decided to write the song from the point of View of a moonshiner making illegal alcohol in his own still have a close encounter with a UFO and little green men or martians as they were sometimes called and how one of the UFO;s had landed 50 yards from his still.

They obviously stopped to sample some of his moonshine nearly scaring him to death and leaving almost as quickly as they had come. Seeing the flashing lights and making some observations of his own he concluded that in his mind they didn’t have any any antennas or weren’t green in color as other folks had said.

After all what could he possibly say to the authorities after all he didn’t have a camera or no proof of any kind…

…and who would believe him anyway they’d probably think he flew the coop and making shine after all was against the law.

He wondered if he’d lost his mind even going as far as consorting with his old dog Duke how he’d seen snakes and spiders on the wall as in having the DT’s after drinkin from this still but he didn’t ever remember drinking booze with men from Mars.

So there you have the story behind the song fictional but imagination or not who could say it couldn’t happen to you sometime you be the judge mom wrote the song with quite a clever imagination…

another Story Behind the Song.


Today’s song is entitled “Keep the upper hand on me”.

I believe this song goes back to having a personal one-on-one relationship with Jesus…

…just graceful good writing and a good message asking the lord to keep us all in check daily so we do not stray from the righteous path.

This song is on my “Call 9-1-1 Heaven” Cd recorded in the late great Jim Hale a great friend and a great pedal steel player who played the pedal steel on this particular song with yours truly playing guitar and bass guitar.

I believe this song makes us know just how real our enemy Satan the devil is…

…and how he would love for us to fail and make Hell our home,lest we fail to make Heaven our home.

I know this message applies and will help others to stay on the straight and narrow…

This song was written by my mother Irene about 20 plus years ago.

Pay close attention to This brain storm of an idea comes from the late great Ray Richardson brothers notoriety who have played for such greats…

…back in the day as The late great, Roger Miller, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ray Price, Judy Lynn and Wanda Jackson Buddy Emmons just to name a few.

They have also rubbed arms with the great Bobbie Hicks who played for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder anyway you get the gist of theirs or Ray’s qualifications.

This song is also on my CD “the Hard Times” by Larry Elliott.

Some inspirations for the someday christian song….

Hello everybody and welcome to this episode of the story behind the song.

Today’s song is entitled “It Wasn’t Easy for Jesus” another great song written by my mother Irene Elliott. Once again it is another song fictitious in a way but what better subject than Jesus could we write about.

It was recorded earlier in Boise,Id in Stolen Horse studio under the engineering of Rob Mattson, then we rerecorded it in Jim Hales studio in Elgin, Oregon and included it on our “Call 9-1-1 Heaven“ CD it’s basically biblical telling about Jesus’s struggles on earth and eventually Calvary’s tree, and we know that was no easy thing to do but he did it all for us for he became the perfect sacrifice for blood redemption for the remission of our sins it was the only way we could be saved.
